My husband is in the Army and has just found out that we might be PCSing there for him to work at the FAA office in Renton. I know that's pretty far from Ft. Lewis, so does anyone have any suggestions for an affordable town with great schools? I'm a teacher, and our daughters are 12 and 9. Thanks for your suggestions!

You may want to consider Puyallup.

Ick... Traffic is going to be so horrid for your husband (if he travels during commuter hours). Also as unfortunate, there isn't as much good school districts south of Seattle. At best, they're pretty average. Between Renton and Ft. Lewis area, if you put key priority on good school districts-- Steilacoom, University Place, Lake Tapps (for the Dieringer SD) have good school districts. Steilacoom and UP are much closer to Ft. Lewis and ways off i5; UP being the more affordable of the two. Lake Tapps is more towards the middle.

You could also check out Maple Valley which is closer to Renton, but quite a ways to Ft. Lewis.

Default Kent, Covington

We live in Covington and worked in Tacoma and Lakewood the Kentwood High school is a good school and the commute is doable to both Renton and Fort Lewis
