Default Yakima to Ellensburg. Where is the best place to live in this area???

Recently my work has relocated my job to Yakima. I don't have a choice not to go really. I have two daughters and need to find the best area to live and raise them given the circumstances. I just not sure where that would be exactly.

Ellensburg is s small, pretty quiet college town, and I'd prefer to live there over Yakima but it's a good 45 minute commute. There are good schools in Yakima, but you have to do the research and move to the right neighborhood. Home prices are also lower in Yakima, crime is higher but
not by much and both are safe.

Ellensburg is a 45 minute commute to Yakima, but if you've done one before it's not bad either. It all depends on how long you want to be in a car every day. As to Yakima, look at West Valley and Selah, both are close in, quieter than nearer in to town, but very easy and quick even into downtown.

As mentioned above if you are working in Yakima, Selah would be pretty attractive. The commute from Ellensburg would be very expensive and time consuming.

I would definitely have to say that West Valley is the best area in Yakima. Most of the neighborhoods are pretty new, the areas are safe, and we have the better school district here.

There are some reasonably nice areas in Yakima proper in the north-west part of town, there are decent places north of town, you don't have to go as far as E-burg to avoid the rough part of ***.

I would not volunteer to commute between E-burg and *** all winter.

Selah is OK as well.

As I have noted before, Yakima proper is not the best run city, it seems to me you are better off living outside the city limits, in terms of services and cost.

Thank you for all your good in put, I look and researched all they areas suggested and was looking very Hard in Selah and West valley, but then yesterday happened into someone with a great brand new house in Ellensburg. Certainly seemed like fate, So that decided it. Thanks again everyone...

I am waiting for a job interview via videophone soon. Like Humble01, I read other threads so I am leaning toward Selah, Terrace Heights and West Valley. Of course I want to live in a college town of Ellensburg, but commuting is rather long.

Is it this sight (http://sewscdhh.web.officelive.com/images/image004.jpg - broken link) in the Yakima area?

Don't move to the Yakima area. Consider living anywhere from the Tri Cities to Prosser and commuting. The commute would range from 30 to 90 minutes, but it would be worth it, and it would be traffic free. Ellensburg is nice, but that commute during winter over the mountains will be problematic.
