Eastern Washington Relocation
We are looking to relocate to Eastern Washington. We are looking at properties over 20 acres, where we would be able to have at least 9 dogs. We would also want to be within reasonable driving distance of a community college and a 4 year university. Does anyone have some suggestions on areas we should be considering? We would be open to Eastern Washington, Idaho, or other areas. The more sunny weather the better. We appreciate any help you can offer.

Spokane has a 4-year (EWU) and 2 CC systems (Spokane and Spokane Valley CC's).
Ellensburg has Central Wa U, while Yakima, a half-hour away has YVCC. Yakima and a lot of other mid-sized cities have branch campuses of CWU and WSU.

Walla Walla has Whitman and WWCC.
La Grande Oregon has EOU and a branch of Blue Mountain CC.

We appreciate your replies. Both Spokane and Walla Walla seem to have a fairly high crime rate. La Grande looks like a pretty good option. In another thread, someone mentioned that Spokane County only allows four dogs. Is the weather in Southeastern Washington much different than that of Northeastern Washington/Idaho?

I don't think you'd need to worry about crime if you're going to live on 20+ acres. The crime stats for Spokane are for the downtown areas...Are all 9 dogs your pets? Maybe you could look at southern Stevens County, Pend Oreille County, Whitman County or Lincoln County. Once you get out in the country, you probably won't have anyone checking to see how many pets you actually have. I can guarantee you that there are folks in Spokane County with more than 4 dogs who live in outlying areas.

Yes, all nine of our Australian Shepherds are our pets. We will check with Animal Control for each of the counties you mentioned to see what is allowed, and what the process is for a kennel license. We would not move to an area where we stand the possible risk of losing some of our dogs. Thanks.

I'd suggest you look into the outlying areas of the Tri-Cities. West Pasco is really booming and yet affordable, without the crime rate that exists in eastern pasco. Benton City & West Richland would also be good places to check into. Columbia Basin College is right off the freeway in Pasco and WSU Tri-Cities is in Richland, not a bad commute from any of the places I mentioned. LOTS of sunshine. Just my 2 cents.
