I live just outside of Sequim. Sequim is full of friendly retired folk and their adult grandchildren who are returning to Sequim to recapture fond memories of a time less hurried. For me, Sequim is a place to shop. I buy my organic, locally grown produce there, as well as free range chicken eggs, etc. I get my hair and nails done there, get my garden supplies at the co-op or one of three major big box stores. Sequim is not the major attraction, Sequim is "town". It's the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the Olympics, Hood Canal,
Dungeness River, local festivals, great fishing, lakes and tide pools in the adjacent areas that are the main attraction for me! I consider the entire North end of the Olympic Peninsula home. Sequim is just a pleasant unassuming speck in the grand tapestry of the Olympic Peninsula. If you're looking for a local town that stands out beyond the rest and can hold her own in the shadow of the majestic Olympics, check out nearby Port Townsend.

Port Townsend and Whidbey Island are fab, they really are. Hopefully I'm scorin' a job on Whidbey Island and moving there in May. But Port Townsend has the Victorian-era buildings and houses and has a laid-back feel to it. It also has a short ferry run to my beloved Whidbey Island.

Whidbey Island has the Blue-Fox Drive-In Movie Theater, Oak Harbor NAS and it's big-box stores, lots and lots of open-air driving, a park with old gun turrets built for WWII still installed for kids to play on and adults to gander upon, Deception Pass park and bridge, which is one of my most favorite parks anywhere, it's absolutely gorgeous, restaurants here and there, etc. Oak Harbor has all of your fast-food places and hopefully it also will have a Teriyaki restaurant in it we can go to.

The Blue-Fox Drive-In Movie Theater is a gem. It has go-karts to race 45 minutes or less before your movie starts and a covered-tent video arcade to play in as well. A decent snack bar-don't bring your own food and drink-it's prohibited. They do need your money to make on their food and drink snacks, too, might I add, because federal law says they must convert to digital programming by 2013. So help support them-I'm going to when I move back home to western Washington.

I love western Washington and with a competent business man like Chris Hansen working to get my beloved Seattle Sonic basketball team back I have all the more reason to get back home. And of course, my birth town of Seattle is always there. Hey, I would be remiss to leave out Seattle Seahawk football (if you can get a ticket that is!) to watch on DirecTV or Dish Network, Seattle Mariner baseball and Unniversity of Washington football and basketball. Lorenzo Romar is another gem that we are so blessed to have in Seattle. He is the best college basketball coach in the nation because he really takes the time to care for his students, who are his players, too. Lorenzo Romar teaches life to his kids. That makes him different, and that's a kind of different I want to be, too. What a great man to have as Husky basketball coach and mentor.

In addition, there's my favorite hamburger sold fast-food, Dick's Drive-In. My favorite fast-food meal sold is a Dick's Deluxe burger, fries and Coke. I believe there's a new Dick's Drive-In built up north now, too, my family was telling me a while back. I think it's in Lynnwood but I'll find out more and get back on forum to let you all know. They're delicious!

We are considering a move to Sequim and you have certainly sold me We've been in Seattle for nearly two years, due to unforeseen circumstances, and have been ready to get out since we got here.
I'm ready for small, simple, quiet small town life again

They gave the Whidbey job ta someone else so I'm not coming over west of the mountains. Now ta try the east of the mountains job, this one in Omak. I think this one would be a better fit for me anyway, so this is a good thing.

I hope you don't mind more isolation than Kellogg!

David, I'd be heading over to Seattle all of the time on the weekends though, I have family over there. The Omak job is a Monday thru Friday gig, like the one I have now.

But yeah, I do hear you on the Omak isolation thing. But my wife and I, when we lived in Everett and Stanwood and Burlington, would head over to Omak every so often just to "get away" from the western Washington ratrace.

So we'll see...you know how interviews go...it has to be a good "fit" first or there'll be no new job or moving ever-more westward.

I do find the Omak Stampede interesting...do they still have the Stampede? Anyone know?

Port Townsend/Sequim is a magical area. It is indeed beautiful, and it has that special rain shadow geographic componet that makes it drier than almost every area in Western Washington.

When I grew up, we had a close family friend with a home at "Cape George Estates", now, unlike then, a gated community. What great memories from that spot, looking west to great sunsets and beyond the Strait of Juan De Fuca.

This area is special, and undiscovered. I predict that once we get out of the great recession, this area will be the Beverly Hills of Washington. Buy now! (And no, I'm not a realtor).

Slight correction: There is no gate at Cape George. However, there are signs that prohibit outsiders.
And Cape George Estates is the wrong term. Cape George Colony is the right term. Still like this area, it is indeed paradise in Western Washington.
