Everett?
Hey, I'm moving to Everett soon. I'm 29, married and will work for Boeing.
Could someone describe Everett? What are the safe/unsafe areas? What's there to do?
Thanks for the help!

Stay as far south as you can. Mill Creek is nice. Silver Lake has some nice areas, toward Snohomish, like Silver Firs, The Highlands ect.
If you're working for Boeing, Mukilteo could work well for you.
Personally, I'd avoid anywhere in North Everett, and Central Everett, like around Evergreen Way...Casino Road in particular. I've heard there are some nicer areas once you get past the golf course on Casino, but I don't know that for sure.
Are you set on Everett, or would you be interested in the surrounding areas? Do you have children? Do you need to know about school districts?

We lived in Everett 3 years and really like the neighborhood we lived in. It's more the historic district by Grand Ave Park & Providence Everett Medical Center. Beautiful homes. I walked to work everyday and evenings. The areas I wasn't impressed is between Broadway (major street) and I-5 (do a google map search, you'll see the area I'm talking about). It seemed that the area west of Broadway was nice but the area east of Broadway wasn't - kind of like 'crossing the tracks into the shady part of town' - IMO. Areas around Evergreen Way didn't impress me either like previous poster. Mukilteo is a really nice area - try checking that out. We didn't have any children while we were in Washington but I knew many people who lived in Mukilteo and loved the area. Had many friends who lived in Mill Creek and Bothell and no complaints there either. Marysville is yuck.

I forgot to mention stuff to do in Everett - really nothing. We always went down to city (Seattle) and the surrounding areas. Everett doesn't have good shopping so plan on heading south to do that. They have a mall, Target, etc. but if you want really good shopping, head to the city or Lynnwood. It's not bad that there isn't anything to do in Everett if you're willing to travel a little bit because there is TONS of stuff to do in the Seattle area or head to Hwy 2 (located by Everett) and do some hiking, skiing, etc. or visit some historic towns.

I have only lived in the Kenmore area for a year and a half.
Ive heard the Mukilteo area is nice and they have a good school system.
Ive also heard from local people here to stay as far south as you can.
You could easily live in the Bothell/Kenmore area and commute to Boeing Plant in Everett in about 30 mins or a bit.
The nice thing is, if you work in the mornings/day time your traffic on the commute would be better, because most people are going south into Seattle and your going North "against most of the traffic".
I live in Kenmore and work in South Everett in fact very near the Boeing Plant there.
Good luck if you have any further questions dont hesitate to ask and or email me or message me. :-)

Thanks all, I was beginning to wonder if anyone would post at all!
I have a 45 minute commute right now from slidell to new orleans, and I'd like to cut that out if at all possible when I move. If there is an area near everett that could get me to the Boeing plant quickly, I would consider that area as well. Living 30 minutes from the murder capitol of the nation has drastically increased safety as one of my main concerns in looking for a new home.

Just saw your post and since I travel all around Snohomish County in my work, I know Everett quite well. While there are some very nice parts of Everett, as others have pointed out, there are some questionable parts as well. I assume that you will be renting when you get here so locating something east of the freeway - or Mukilteo (closest to Boeing) might be a good place to start since you don't know the area. Mukilteo though can be pricey.
There is a trestle bridge to another area of Everett east of the freeway near Lake Stevens but it gets clogged in rush hours.
As someone else has pointed out, the Silver Lake area of Everett is nice as are Mill Creek and Bothell. Pricey, but nice.
If you find something in a particular area of Everett or one of the surrounding towns, I don't mind if you pass it by me so that I can investigate the location and surrounding neighborhood further for you.
As for things to do, there are gazillion things to do in Washington and depends on what you like to do in your spare time. Everett Mall is quite small but Alderwood Mall, in next door Lynnwood is big and offers lots of choices for shopping. If you like to eat out, the Anthony's chain of restaurants has a Grill and a seafood restaurant on the waterfront (Marine Drive) of Everett. A little noisy but the scenery is great and of course, there are lots more restaurants all over of every kind and variety.
The Centennial Trail is a great walking/biking route that you would have to drive to from Everett (20-30 mins). And Everett has a great farmers market on the waterfront each week maybe in certain times of the year. Very popular.
Check out the Everett Herald online at HeraldNet - Snohomish County's Online News Source for some area information on rentals etc. And the Everett Chamber of Commerce for community info. Hope this helps and welcome to our neck of the woods! I love it here and trust that is your experience also.
