Melissa, Olympia may be more exciting than Puyallup, but you will pull your hair out commuting north on I-5 from Olympia. During rush hour, it is a parking lot until you get past the bases. Puyallup isn't as bad as some of the naysayers would have you believe, depending where you choose to look. There are good and bad parts. Housing is generally affordable, especially right now. Downtown has Pioneer Park, where they host one of the better farmers' markets in the south sound, as well as outdoor summer concerts. Traffic to the bases can be slow, but not like the crawl up I-5, and South Hill Meridian is THE poster child for suburban sprawl and epic traffic backups. But don't let others color your picture of Puyallup and East Pierce County. Take a look for yourself and you be the judge.

Right! Some parts of Puyallup are ugly and some are boring, but others are quite lovely. I agree with what Luftmann says - check out the entire town and don't listen to those who judge Puyallup by Meridian Ave. alone! Good luck!
