Say we find a place we like and want to stay...are temp services welcoming to out of state applicants? When I moved to Maine the temp services would not let me apply until I had a local job reference. I know in some areas the summer and tourist season is starting to hire. Any job that helps get my foot in the door would be acceptable to me. I am sure that being out of state has been hurting my chances especially since I am not a skilled worker. Any one have experience with the temp services in Olympia or Seattle areas?

I got my job in WA last May while living in GA... the temp company was Aerotek.

I found the job online, sent resume, they called me and said "You do know this job is in WA state?" , I said yes, went to the Savannah, GA Aerotek office, filled out paperwork, took drug test, background check, etc... results sent to WA. Few days after that I had a phone interview followed by a job offer the next day. Agreed to start in 2 weeks, took care of business in GA, drove across the country and here I am almost a year later doing quite well.

I worked for Aerotek for 5 months then was hired full time by the client... a major Boeing supplier. My background in CNC machining would classify me as skilled labor... why else would they hire someone 3000 miles away. During the phone interview I was told they had been looking for someone for over a month which would also explain me being hired. Anyway, the job has worked out well... pay is good, yearly profit sharing, monthly bonuses, 3 weeks vacation and a week of sick time. Not too bad, and it all started with a temp company.

Opera, to answer your question, I think if you were to go to the temp companies, professionally dressed, resume' in hand and make a good impression, you have as good a chance as anyone. You have your MBA, you would be here and ready to work. You have to go into it with the mindset that if you approach every company seriously, research them and understand their business before you go in, that you have a solid chance. My guess is you will need a local ID and that requires a physical address but beyond that, it will be up to you to sell yourself.

I think going to a temp agency that is nationwide or that has offices where you live and in Washington might be a good bet.
