I'll be moving up to the Seattle area in about 1 month (from Irving, TX). My parents are coming with me. I'll be working near the intersection of I-5 and 512. Looking for a apartment in a good neighborhood. No kids so school system is not a concern.

Priority is 1) safe, 2) reasonable commute, 3) affordable (would like to keep it below $2000 for a 3bd/2ba apartment).

I've been reading for a while but am stymied. So far I'm considering Stadium district, Renton, Gig Harbor, Olympia. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yea... 2K/mo is more than enough for that area.

I would delete Renton simply it's too far and you'll definitely deal with some Seattle traffic (even though it is reverse commute) in addition to Tacoma area. So Stadium District (pretty urban), Gig Harbor (rural with a bridge) and Olympia (a little less rural down south)... they're different as can be. Is there a reason why these places in particular?

Popular suggestions for that area down there are DuPont, University Place, Steilacoom because they're nice and safe. Puyallup is often thrown in, but there are some skeevy areas and its pretty much an overbuilt suburbia with lots of choke points.

I have no particular reason to choose the areas listed, other than by reputation and distance. Will be flying out there tomorrow to take a look around and hopefully sign up an apartment. Want to keep commute to <15 min if possible, max 30 min.
