I found a couple places that looked good online in the triangle north of Division and east of Steele.

Sounds like North Slope. That is a nice area. One of the largest historic neighborhoods in the state, if not the largest.

East Tacoma is not close to North Tacoma. East Tacoma is South of I-5 and east of Pacific Ave.

Thanks! I kept reading "East Tacoma" and was unsure if that was a specific proper place name, or a direction discription, i.e. "the eastern half of the whole city."

I am thinking about buying a house in Tacoma it is on 63rd and pacific avenue. Is this a safe neighborhood ? The price of the house is great,I would commute to Seattle where I currently live via Pierce transit. I would park my car at the park and ride at the transit center near the dome, freighhouse square, would that be safe, as I would be getting to my car around 8pm. Any helpful thoughts would be greatly appreciated. thank-you

I haven't lived in that area for awhile but for a few blocks on either side of Pacific Ave. from 48th to 64th were always pretty nice with well kept homes. Best neighborhood in Tacoma, no but if you find a house you like and can afford I don't think you will have any major problems. If the house is right on Pacific Ave. there might be some noise issues as it is a pretty busy street.

The south end is getting very, very ghetto.

Used to be just the East Side, (once you got east of A street off Pac Ave) was bad, but the police seem to be shuffling the dirtbags over the entire south end. There's hookers on Pac Ave right in front of Fred Meyer (72nd!) now, and the strip south of there to 84th has turned into sketch central. Don't ever stop at the AM/PM on 84th and Pac at night, good god.

Really sad, because the south end used to be a normal middle class area to grow up in. Now? I'd be wary of anything in the area.

If I was buying a house in Tacoma I'd be looking north of 6th ave for sure.
