I live in Longview personally and grew up here. It is indeed a beautiful town of you live on the out skirts however there is not much to do here which is why the meth use is high. The Mills put out a lot of polution which most peoples bodies do not react well too. IE sinus problems and many colds. I love this town however can not put up with the gossip/racisim/wierd family behaviors to be expected in a small mill town. I would suggest Kalama/Woodland area which is just as beautiful but with less drug users and less polution

Interesting Longview trivia:

The city was one of the earliest "planned" cities in the country. If you look at the grid pattern in the center of the city you can see everything revolves around the old Monticello Hotel. The lumber barons wanted to build a city to serve their mills. You can still see hints of this in certain parts of town.

The Green Day song "Longview" was inspired by the city, as the group evidently had a lot of connections to musicians who lived in the area that frequently played Portland.

I looked at real estate in Longview in the later part of 06, it was still pricey for what the homes had to offer. That said, the entire area (kelso-longview) has had a lot of crime that is a direct result of the drug trade. It's a beautiful area and there are a lot of nice looking neighborhoods that seemed quiet enough. I spent some weekends there looking at all the houses I could fit in my time schedule, at night I got the feeling that the local's are not going into the town, they go to local malls and cineplex movies on the outskirts of town. Look up the crime stats and you'll see a large number of home burglaries and crimes of oppertunity(car prowl) If I had to live there I'd definitely be in the hills or on the NW side of town.

And hardly anyone can afford anything. I get starred at up and down when i bring in a load of groceries or anything its ridiculous!! Not to mention. Ive never seen so many people wear pajama pants in public!! So lazy!
