Hi, all. Sorry to be a needy newbie -- I know it's bad manners to create a thread and pose all sorts of questions with a first post -- but I have the opportunity to buy some land in Humptulips, and was wondering if anyone's familiar with the area. I'm thinking about retiring there in perhaps 15 or so years.

I've already looked up all the basic climate/population data, but no one seems to have much to say about the community. So any thoughts or impressions are welcome. Thanks for the help.

You are a bit premature, a lot can happen to change a place in 15 years. Last time I went through there I cannot remember any kind of business or many homes, the population may be under 300, I'd guess, and with a decent retirement income you'd likely be one of the more affluent people there. It's a good half hour to Aberdeen/Hoquiam which has some shopping, but if you like quiet, seclusion Humptulips may be right for you. Since the rapid economic decline due to the spotted owl effects on the lumber industry there in the late 80s, that whole area has been slow to recover with only a push for tourism and a few start up manufacturing plants to help. That has kept property prices very low, which can be a big help to the retiree.
