What happens when one wants to move and one doesn't?
Anyone else out there have the problem where one spouse is sold on relocating to WA and the other spouse isn't sure? How did you finally come to a decision? Have you made the move and now regret it? or love it?

no but we are the opposite - I want to move out and the rest of the family doesn't - but I think you and I have discussed before that issue.
Why are husbands so stubburn?

= ) I told friends the other day that the hardest part about being married is having to incorporate DH in my decision-making process. I always joke and tell him things would be easier if he would just do everything I said. = ) But then....where's the fun/challenge in that? = )

I read an article in the Seattle Times today about the home prices here coming down and the large buyers market opening up....will that help your husband come up here?
What's his beef? I'd think most men would jump at the chance for a cooler climate.

How about if you both come up and you show him some places you'd like to live that incorporate stuff he likes? What kind of hobbies does he enjoy? There's great fishing here and lots of people have (work)shops. Good luck.

We have friends in Gig Harbor, Tacoma, and Olympia. We've spent quite a bit of time in all those places...even done some house hunting. The main thing that is holding him back is that he doesn't want to leave his best friend (they've known each other since grade school and the best friend would never move)......and the town we live in is where DH grew up. His parents live up the street from us. I think that he is just nervous about what a big change it would be.

Maybe a temporary move (short term lease in WA and rent out your current property -- or whatever financially makes sense to you) of 3-6 months would solve this if your spouse would agree to do that and it wouldn't cause any major disruptions to yours or their professional lives.
That way, you could both figure out for sure whether the move is a good idea for you or not.
In retrospect, I'd have taken this route rather than committing to a long term move from the beginning without having lived in the area for an extended time period.

I'm having the same situation with my spouse. He is not the type that goes for change, whereas I'm the opposite, and wanting to have what my mom struggled to do for years...I want to buy a home or rent to own, and don't where to start. In New York, things are expensive and I want to take advantage of the housing market while the prices are decent....

minty....I hope that you do get a chance to own your own home. = ) There is a great satisfaction in a place that is truly yours. DH and I currently own our home, but it was a stretch for us financially.....even though we bought before the boom. One of the reasons we are considering WA is that we could sell our house here and buy something comarable..or bigger in WA and have a much smaller mortgage....so that I might actually be able to stay home with our future babies when they're young.......which is something that is very important to me.

Don't downplay friends and family! If I could just be closer to my parents I'd feel SO MUCH better (especially once you have kids - you won't realize how BADLY you need family around)
