That would be great, but the main Whole Foods website doesn't show a store in Gig Harbor. Anyone here from GH who can confirm? I thought I was going to miss Whole Foods a lot more after we moved, but we love Central Market so much we haven't really missed it yet. Back in Orlando, it was called "Whole Paycheck." Does it have the same nickname out here?

I believe it is a mom and pop whole foods store, not the corporate Whole Foods store.
We do have Whole Foods, but it's in Bellevue. That is 60-90 minutes from Gig Harbor.

There are also the ones in Redmond & Seattle, though I don't know any of them would be an easier commute...

We will be moving to Gig Harbor from Nor Cal in a year or so and I would really love to talk to someone who lives there and can answer a few questions for me. The place we are living now has a lot of problems and I want to try and avoid them when we move. If you have time to chat please email me @ myshabbyrose@frontiernet.net
I fell in love with Gig Harbor the moment I saw it and I really think it will be a great place to live.

The commute to Seattle is not that bad, especially if you car pool. From my home in Gig Harbor, to SafeCo Field (where the Mariners play) takes 50 min. Weekday commute, no carpool, will be significantly worse than that.
We don't have Trader Joes yet, and I'm not familiar with the Whole Foods, but check out our new Harbor Greens Market...I'll argue even better than Trader Joes.

If you're eager for a Whole Foods store anywhere in WA that's not Bellevue, Seattle or Vancouver (Mill Plain), looks as though it's not gonna happen. I did some backtracking research and found that whatever Google is showing as a location in Gig Harbor does not appear as part of the corporate Whole Foods family. At the Whole Foods website, cited above by AngelHeart53, if you enter the zip that Google shows, 98355, you'll find that Whole Foods says their closest store to 98355 is 26 miles away in Seattle city proper. Weird...

Do yourself and a lot of us a favor and live close to where you work. I went to HS in Gig Harbor and I will never go back. Expensive, snobby, WASP-like and utterly boring (minus the nice scenery).

Don't commute from Gig Harbor to Seattle unless you are carpooling. If you don't carpool, you're talking a two-hour commute. One of the posters said that it was terrible going from Gig Harbor to Tacoma. It is no longer that bad because of the new bridge. It takes only about 20 minutes now.
We don't have the Whole Foods that you're talking about in Gig Harbor. The one we have is a very little, tiny market.

Commute to Seattle
I live and work in Seattle and have cabin near the key peninsula so I have some experience with the commute and yes it can be terrible on I-5. I like the Gig Harbor area very much. I digress a bit from this Gig Harbor thread that they have some of the best golfing in state of WA within 15 minutes-Chambers Bay, Trophy Lake, Mcormick Woods, and Gold Mountain. I have a dream to relocate permanently with family to Gig Harbor at a certain point but keep my business in Seattle. Some options I have been looking at as I have done this before and its pretty sweet-drive north on 16 then exit to Southworth Ferry Dock(14 miles opposite each way against major traffic so its a breeze-walk on the Vashon boat and pick up the Vashon Seattle foot ferry and your are downtown Seattle able to access metro buses easily. Right now the boat ride is about 40 minutes for both legs but very scenic and relaxing. Now next year in 2009 King county is taking over the foot ferry run and adding high speed boats with 3 runs in the AM and PM. This cuts the total ferry boat time including both legs to 25 minutes. Thats a tipping point in my opinion to make this option very practical time wise. Also the new Narrows Bridge although a toll of $2.75 has totally made the drive to I-5 a piece of cake so if you can work around the rush hour times on I-5 the commute by car is do-able. Restaurants are improving in Gig Harbor but not discussed across the bridge you can take the back roads to Ruston on the Tacoma waterfront within 10-12 minutes and there is a great walking waterfront trail and also some great waterfront restaurants. My nieces go to Gig Harbor High School and are doing well and the oldest is being accepted in very good colleges. Good Luck!
