Default Opinions please? South Snohomish county

Currently I am living on Kauai, HI, but i'll be moving to WA in December. My husband and I were thinking about North of Seattle. Maybe the Shoreline area or Snohomish County.

I've heard some bad things about most of the places we can afford. And the nice places are too expensive for our budget. We are looking for a one bedroom apartment around $700. Does anyone know of nice/decent areas that are still affordable?

Also I have a step-son that will be staying with us on the weekends. So we would like a place that is kid friendly. Nothing to city like.

Thanks in advance!!

Steelergirl,

I live in SW Washington now (Centralia) but I lived in Edmonds, WA not too long ago and my family lives there. I believe there are still some affordable rents there and it's a great town - charming and growing. Have you looked there? I also lived in Shoreline and think that is affordable and close to Seattle, if that is where you need to commute. Otherwise, you might look into further north locations, like Everett.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply.
I probably won't commute to Seattle. I looked at Edmonds, and liked it. But i've found it hard to look for something I could afford. Maybe i'm not looking good enough. I was just looking at Mountlake Terrace, and that looks like an alright place. Unless you might know otherwise. I haven't heard too much good things about Everett on this board. But that is another possibility. And also I have a brother-in-law that lives in Shoreline and he likes it. So I might start researching more about Shoreline.

Yes I do!

In Bellevue ( by Factoria) there is a Steeler bar called Sideline. We have gone there a few times and love that the place is always filled with Steeler fans and they also have great food! The guy who owns it is from Pittsburgh.

There is also another one in Kirkland and I am blanking on the name. I have never been there but know that its a great place from other people!

Honestly, the farther you get from Seattle the lower the prices go. What I would do is start with something like apartments.com, pick out the general region you are looking to get into, then try to find some apartments that match your budget range. Once you do, you can post the cities they are in on this forum and ask opinions on those areas.
