We are an army family relocating to ft Lewis. Im right with y'all with all your concerns. We are very blessed that I still have family in Puyallup; a lot can happen in thirteen year so im still doing some back ground checks. In all of our relocating I find it best to check on the schools first. It’s never failed us if you find a good high school you are in a good part of town. Check out this web site http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/...school/wa/1424
Will tell ya, stay away from Steilacoom, Spanaway and Lakewood they where getting scary when I lived there and family said it’s only gotten rougher. Oh and puyallup, There is three other roads out of the valley, that are not well used only locals know some things. Puyallup/south hill there is a back road that runs clear to the air force base. All so check out Yelm its a small growing town on the lacey side of post.

I'm curious if 4 A Blue Ocean still lives in Dupont. We're an AF family getting stationed at Ft. Lewis in Aug., and I've been looking around the area and though Dupont sounded nice. I was curious about how it is there 2 year later and if the prices have dropped for 3 bdrm homes.

Default DuPont Homes for Sale

Doryjo,

Did you check out MillitaryByOwner.com? They list houses both for rent/sale. Some by owner, some by agent. You can input the base (Lewis or McChord) and the city. I saw a range from 269,9 to 342k.

Good Luck-We are Army and moving to DuPont in July--

I can highly recommend Dupont for military families. it's super convenient to both installations, it's a well maintained and safe community with good schools and a quaint atmosphere. A 15 minute drive south and you have all the big stores and restaurants in Lacey. A 20 minute drive north and you have all the city amenities of Tacoma.
Home prices start in the mid $200Ks and rent prices for homes start in the $1,200 range.

Sandy

Spanaway out skirts nice - going towards the moutain... outskirts 208th and further
Puyallup out unless towards Graham but even today no
Parkland or Lakewood no way in hell or Steilicoom

like the country better check out Yelm - or Hawks Prairie Area

but for the most close to everything in town safe where I would live Lacey Olypmia favorite Boston Harbor area
Good luck

Thanks a lot! I have been checking out the MBO site and others. We just found out our sponsor rents in Spanaway. I've heard varying things about Dupont--that you don't get 'much bang for your buck' comes to mind and 'itsy bitsy yards'. So is that really the case w/properties in that area? I have noticed in a few homes that where the backyard would be are garages in some areas--that was surprising!
I keep flip flopping from one opinion to another, probably because I can't see things in persone yet. For a while I was thinking we would try and stay on base, but that' not even a guarantee on when we could get into it and then I saw the school district ratings for the base are and it was discouraging. I've seen that Dupont is in a good district and that Lacey/Olympia are good too. I really like the idea of the Dupont community, so hopefully we'll find something that we like to either rent or buy. We'll see!
Thanks so much for the input here. I find it so useful and very helpful! I'm glad I stumbled onto this forum.
