For those of you who have lived in California, is the cost of living much different in Washington. Specificly the Tri-City areas?

Southern Ca (Orange County) vs Spokane.....personal experience.... much cheaper. We went from two incomes to one income and a much better house with way more land. OC: 1800 sq ft house on 7,000 sq ft land. Spokane: 2800 sq ft house on 10 acres of land. OC: 2 incomes Spokane: 1 income.

I lived in the SF Bay Area and now am in Sammamish. Even the most expensive areas near Seattle are considerably less expensive than that part of CA, though some things like produce
cost more. The Tri-Cities area is much less expensive than Seattle or the Bay Area, the cost of living is more like what you would find in the Central Valley or rural Sierra Foothills, such as Stockton, or Jackson. Last time I was in Pasco about a year ago new homes were going for as little as $120,000

Our 2450 ft^2 house, with panoramic view and no HOA on 1/4 acre, is worth about $190K on the market in south Kennewick. Of course, if you are from California, you might find Tri-Cities a little...soporific. I've enjoyed it here, but I really don't want most of what a big city offers.

Wow, had to look up soporific. Great word. Just because we come from California does not mean we are coming to Washington expecting excitement. One of the many reasons I left California was to enjoy a more soporific lifestyle.

Seattle and WA provided ample excitement for me. But then I can generally stay awake in very calm surroundings.

We are from Southern California. We are debating when the best time to relocate would be. Our daughter is 1 years old so we are giving ourselves a cutoff date. Some time before she goes to preschool. California is just getting to crazy and expensive.
