Walla Walla, Washington
Hello, I need some insight. I want to move to Walla Walla. The catch is I have never been there. I have always wanted to live in the the northwest. I've been to northern California and I loved St. Helena. so I am hoping to find a little of that in Walla Walla. Small progressive town with a few good little galleries, and really nice local restaurants. I currently live in the middle of Atlanta and the city is getting too much for me. I want a slower place. I think I want to live in downtown Walla Walla in a similar neighborhood as what I'm in right now. There are a lot of bungelows in my neighborhood. My house was built in 1929. I need a little more space and the real estate there seems to be affordable. The taxes are definitely less than what I'm paying here which is double bacuse I'm in the city of Atlanta also. Can anyone tell me what it is like there. I know they get 4 seasons which sounds great. I know there is an artwalk and some vineyards near by. I know there are also 3 small colleges. I guess if anyone can think of things they didn't like that might be easier. I know I need to make a trip out there but I'm trying to narrow down the area. I also want to be a pet friendly area. I have a 13 year old Weimaraner that gets holistic care. Can you think of anything that would be good to know? I'm about ready to put the house on the market and just move! Thanks, I really appreciate any insight I can get. Gwen

I went through several links yesterday evening and I still think this sounds like a pretty good place to set up. I think living in close to downtown, I could make this work. Can you think of any other areas in Washington or Oregon that might be worth checking out? A coastal town would be nice but it needs to be affordable and not completely isolated. I picked up a book about small artist towns and they have several in Washington but none are realistically affordable, at least not from the listings I've found online. I want to be able to find affordable housing, not be completely isolated but in a small enough town that I can concentrate on my work and if I have to get a little side job to supplement things, I am not opposed to that either. I know this is asking a lot so any ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gwen

I'm looking at the downtown area for older homes, are there any areas that I should completely avoid? Any parks or landmarks I want to be near? What about Walla Walla East? It would be nice to be within walking distance to things like the grocery store/market, restaurants and shopping. Do you have to have a car? Maybe a bike/scooter?

I was born and raised in St. Helena, CA. I think Ashland Oregon is more similar to St. Helena than Walla Walla.

We are looking to relocate to Walla Walla or surrounding area. However, we must have a job before we jump into this head long. We are looking for a HVAC position, maintenance and installation, commercial and residential, 27 years experience. Will be in area early September 2008 for interviews. We will also be buying a house or building one whatever will be the cheaper way to go, does anyone have any info on the building vs. buy an already built home?
Thanks
Duh!

Lots of good fly fishing for trout just a short drive away.
Good stillwater fishing in eastern Washngton and Oregon.
Good small stream fishing in Oregon.
Outstanding river fishing in Idaho for cutts.
Get's you into Montana fairly quickly on Highway 12 for rainbows.
Couple of small rivers close by for steelhead and trout.
Lots of fishing for warm-water species, but I don't fish those much.
You'll like Walla Walla as a central area for fly fishing.
