Is there anyone who has lived in either or both places? I am still deciding between Gig Harbor and Anacortes. I work at home so commute is not an issue. From the map, Anacortes looks so beautiful with ocean, river, lake and large park. From data on accuweather.com, the winter in Anacortes seems mild, but the summer is too short, while Spring and Fall are not warm enough for my liking. What are your thoughts? Which would you choose to live and why? Thanks.

No response for so long probably means few members have lived there. I have not, either, but have spent time in both. If weather is a concern, Anacortes is far better with about half as much. There is little if any noticeable difference in the summers.

Of the two I would go with Anacortes. It's close to one of my favorite areas, Deception Pass, and seems very much like the nearby San Juan islands. Gig Harbor on the other hand is a small town just across the bridge from Tacoma, with higher than average crime. When I'm there it seems like a quieter suburb of Tacoma and while it's safe the crime rate is almost double that in Anacortes.

Thank you for the answer. I like it a bit warmer and a bit drier than Blaine (WA) where I am now. From the data I have found, in the Fall and spring, Gig Harbor is warmer, but also much rainnier than Anacortes. I may opt for Anacortes for the lower crime rate that you mentioned. Thank you.

Anacortes. I only recommend it though if you are stably self-employed. My husband also worked from home, but was laid off. It is 50 miles to his new job because he wasn't able to find another work at home job. Anacortes is even further from the Seattle MSA than where we live. There is nothing going on for miles around Anacortes. Mostly for retirees, people who work at the refineries, and low level service workers.

If you aren't self-employed, I'd recommend Gig Harbor because it is really close to the Tacoma job market in case you lose your job. Otherwise, Anacortes is nicer, IMO.
