22 Washington high schools labeled 'dropout factories' | KOMO-TV - Seattle, Washington | News

At the following Washington high schools, 40 percent or more of entering freshmen are gone before their senior year, according to an analysis of U.S. Education Department statistics by researchers at Johns Hopkins University:

I'm curious..do the drop out stats take into account families transferring / moving away to other school districts, or is it just a blanket number that counts the incoming freshman class and counts them again as seniors? Because those are pretty high numbers and it seems kind of hard to believe...

That's pretty much exactly what they did. Of course on the news the governor and the superintendent of schools in Tacoma did NOT agree with the results.

And when the majority of military members kids go to schools in Tacoma there's a lot of transfering in and out.

There are other studies that show WA state is right in line with the average across all of the U.S.
