You guys are right. This is a topic which should be discussed in the General US forum. I think there are many posters which could provide you with good information about US horse laws, climate and such who don't even look at the WA forum.

movingwest, don't be too freaked about the hanta etc. In the first place, plague is treatable with antibiotics, even in the incredibly rare event it would transfer to humans from Prairie dogs or whatever. The people who got hanta had been in mice infested areas and cleaning up old mice-**** without proper face masks on for such work. You have to be just as careful cleaning up moldy old barns etc. or get some nasty lung disease. I am in Northern AZ and I am not concerned about either thing, even with lots of prairie dogs on my property and mice trying to live with me. I just use common sense.
NM and AZ both have water issues, alot of rural areas are haul water. We are moving north to be closer to family and away from the drought. About the lowest down I would go with my horses, is the eastern foothills/Rocky Mts. of Colorado. If you go too much east from any of the mountain ranges you have to worry about tornadoes, and I don't want to. We are looking for nearly the same thing you are, but like more snow I think. We are researching Co, Mt, WA. South west Mt, Boulder and Boulder valley areas, great riding I hear. WA, the Cle Elum and Goldendale areas. Goldendale is pretty mellow, less snow than Cle Elum, but fasrther from Seattle where my sis is. but you have to be content with small town life, surrounded by other small towns. Sure looks like a nice town. Prairie like, but pines very near. Great land/RE prices, about 50% of what we have here. I have pics of it my sis sent me, if you message me I'll share.

Did someone already start a "Horse People Please Post Here" thread, or whatever?

movingwest, I asked alot of WA questions about hay supplies up there, happy with what I heard. I was going to ask you why you feel that way about the bermuda hay. After using timothy (at 16.99 a bale in AZ, yep, you read that right) exclusively, we are now on bermuda, at 14.00 a bale, and the horses are doing great. Nutritionally speaking as long as they have the mineral/salt block they seem to thrive, but tell me why you want off it.
Seems up north, Tim and bermuda hay are cheaper, like 110 to 120 a ton. Both kinds. I avoid alfalfa, we have no colic, knock on wood, don't want that to change.

xxman77, I'll go see if I can find where you mean, for posting a horse people thread. Thanks for that suggestion!
