I think I've been in Electric City once and frankly I think I blinked and missed it I have been in this neck of the woods though. Lake Roosevelt is beautiful during the summer. When I was very young we went on a house boat and went up and down the lake in it.

Anyways, I have no specific comments about Electric City other than I doubt they are big enough to even garner a farmers market. It is very remote and has a true small town feel to it but it may be too small for you. Its one of those cities you have to go two towns over to get something.

If you want small cities close to that region I would recommend first and foremost Chelan, WA. Small city, with its own politics, beautiful, small tourism in the summer. Not annoying tourism. Its just a place many Washingtonians go to beat the rain, so most of it is exclusive to hotels or the downtown.

Ephrata is another choice. Small town, I believe has a small downtown with old shops and such close to Moses Lake (another choice too) for medical purposes.

Wennatche is a true town based off of farming that has grown into a city but still holds all of the old town feel.

A lot of the smaller towns in eastern washington around that area lack a remaining downtown, so I would be weary of some of the smaller cities unless that's really what you are looking for.

Unless you worked at the dam, why would anyone want to live in Electric City?

I'd have to agree with most of Xenobion's reasoning, I love the Electric City area as it has many benefits... especially with outdoor recreation (as in most of North Central Washington) being plentiful.

My difference would be regarding Chelan. I love Chelan and it is a great little town but has become 95% about tourists and retirement/relocation housing. If your concerns are cost of living like your first post leads me to believe (Hawaii being too expensive), there are few areas of the country that can compare to the rise in housing costs of the Chelan area over the past 3-5 years.

Wenatchee (also taking a big leap in housing costs lately) and Ephrata would be great choices. If you are looking for something a little more mountainy... the Okanogan/Omak area is gorgeous. It is more remote but both towns (4 miles apart) have thriving downtown areas and plenty of modern conveniences while keeping their small town charm.
