Hamilton Farms (R.I.P). now resting at Exit 72, the only source of reason on I-5 and a welcome sight on the left coast. He was a great guy to get engaged in a conversation. Misspellings are intentional, of course!

'Uncle Sam Billboard' used to be next to his Dairy Farm on the west side of I-5; 2 miles north of Chehalis (moved it about 25-30 yrs ago). His sons continue the tradition (thank goodness). They get lots of 'gestures' and honks when changing the sign. From the 'Tolerant' folks on I-5.

These 'statements' were fairly common in "Farm Country" in the 50's and 60's.

What "segment" of the media? As far as I know, every mainstream media outlet does this.

Just because Fox News is on the other side of the aisle from the rest, doesn't make the rest any different. Or any better.

First time I saw that sign I couldn't tell if it was in favor of or against Obama. I can't remember what it was about, but it was unclear whether it was saying it liked the thing or hated it.

That's because whichever Hamilton is now responsible for the sign hasn't the slightest grasp on even the most basic grammar or spelling.

I'd say something negative about Lewis County schools but three of my sons have graduated high school in this county and they are far from being illiterate and can all write in coherent sentences - unlike the Hamiltons.

It's a trend we've seen increase since November 2008 (go figure) and it's across media types. You see some of it in the mainstream TV and newspaper media but it's most shrill in blogs and radio. What's interesting is it USED to be more common on the other side of the aisle IE: hippies/liberals complaining about "The Man keepin' me down" and now the far right has adopted the victim mentality.

Either way, it's just as intellectually lazy and irrational whatever 'side' decides to do it, but it's certainly found a dear home in far right circles as of late.

That's the reason we always look forward to seeing that sign when driving to Portland. We always get a chuckle out of the misspellings.

Someone needs to help these poor Hamiltons out. Their poor spelling lends credence to the term "Retardican."

At first I thought the OP was talking about the big Uncle Sam sign you see south of Chehalis going northbound on I-5. I haven't seen these other signs.
Here is the big anti-Obama Uncle Sam sign I always see, on google streetview:

lol

Yup - that's the Hamilton sign.

I'm impressed - they actually managed to ask a nine-word question without misspelling a single word.

I remember that sign from way back. When the older Hamilton did the sign it was actually thought provoking, even if I didn't agree with the stance, and I always looked forward to the few minutes of entertainment it gave on an otherwise repetitive trip.

Since the younger ones have taken over it is nothing but regurgitated fox news/tea party one liners and is about as thought provoking as rock. It feels more like an embarrassment these days then the kitschy roadside attraction it was.
