I am presently priced out of Poulsbo and Silverdale, and wish to live on the Kitsap Peninsula (used to live on Whidbey, presently living in West Texas). Bremerton has places I can afford, but I do not want a high-crime area.

It is alright. It isn't a bad area at all. I would mainly stay away from downtown Bremerton or along Callow Ave. Manette is mostly older homes, but there are a lot of nice views from the neighborhood. The biggest downplay for the neighborhood is the lack of shopping nearby. The closest grocery store is an Albertsons. All other types of shopping are kind of far away. Silverdale is the best shopping area in terms of quantity on the Kitsap Peninsula.

Manette and other parts of East Bremerton are generally safe. Most crime in this area is property crime. Stranger-on-stranger crime is rare. A heads-up though, the further away from Hwy. 303 (Wheaton Way), the better. The indigent live in the woods behind the stores along the highway. Not necessarily a dangerous population per se, but caution should be used when you are in the Hwy. 303 area between Lebo Blvd. and Sylvan Way.
