Hello there!

We are two medical students assigned to St. Jospeh's hospital for our 3rd year rotations. We have not had a chance to make it up to Tacoma to check out the area but would love some ideas on where to looks for rentals. We would prefer to be near the hospital but don't see much online in terms of availability in the area. Are there any apartment complexes in the area? What other areas would be recommended that are not too far from St. Joseph's? How is the area in terms of safety, sketchiness, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Was once by far the worst, most dangerous neighborhood in the state. Not quite as bad as it once was, just wouldn't live near the hospital. The further north you live from the St. Joseph's, the safer. South or west would not be smart.

I'd look in the area around Stadium High School. The closer you are to the water or the further north you go, the safer/nicer it is. The area around the University of Puget Sound is decent, especially to its north. The Proctor District has shopping, etc.
