From what I've been reading on Kenmore, it seems like a nice place to live. Right now my hubs and I live closer to Tacoma, so keep in mind this is our reference point. And as far as crime, safety and aesthetics it most definitely has it beat. My hubs has just taken a job offer in Bellevue that will have him commuting around Redmond, Kirkland and Bellevue. Yesterday when we went home searching around Kenmore, we asked a woman how she likes living there. She scrunched up her nose, shrugged and said an unenthusiastic "It's ok." She went on to say the schools aren't that great, which confused my husband and I because we've read good things about the North Shore School District.

Any thoughts on Kenmore? Are we missing something?

The Northshore School district is very good, but not every single school within the district is very good. Kenmore Elementary School is thought of as mediocre, but Moorlands and Arrowhead, also in Kenmore, are thought of as much better.
I like Kenmore, and I could happily live there. But some people don't like it because parts of it are a bit run down, or not updated. It still has a 1950's feel, and there are no prestigious or hip businesses. Also, the main drag, Bothell Way, is a continuation of Seattle's Lake City Way, which is often thought of as the slums of the north end.
But, all in all, there's nothing really wrong with Kenmore. It's a little industrial, it's a little run down. But so what? Crime's not high. Schools generally are good. Maybe they're not on the level of Mercer Island's. But house prices in Kenmore are much lower. While you're at it, check out the next door neighbor Lake Forest Park. Shoreline School district, and similar home prices.
