We are ready in 18 months to move to a politically liberal place with cooler temps and people who love animals. We have lived in San Antonio, TX for over 20 years. In 18 months we will have saved up enough money to purchase a small home for 100 K. I am a military Veteran. We both have our own self employment.....I am a graphic artist and Master Reiki practitioner, he is a fix-it person for desktops, small engines and household items. We would like information of which city would be the best for our profiles.....Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Sequim or even Vancouver, WA. We would like to find a small home, 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms with a small yard. We are both over 55. We cannot live in one of the over 55 manufactured home parks because we have 9 cats and a dog. We also seem to attract stray animals which we care for: spay/neuter, pay the vet bills and take very good care of. Thank you very much for your information, good folks.

$100,000 will be hard to find where you're looking, unless a fixer-up. Could be possible elsewhere on the Olympic Peninsula:

Fixer upper is good....saw a few on trulia.com for under 100 K. I like volunteering helping developmentally disabled folks....Port Angeles have anything like this? How are the sentiments there for military Veterans like myself? Thanks?

I agree that it will be hard to find a (livable) home is Port Townsend, Sequim or Port Angeles for 100K. Not impossible but difficult. A home selling in that price range in these towns would likely be in rough shape or would be a manufactured/mobile home. Having said that, the occasional reasonable little place comes along in that price bracket but they typically get snatched up by cash buyers or investors in the area poised to purchase. "Reasonable" being defined as needing a moderate but not excessive amount of repair work.

The Craigslist postings that CrazyDonkey provided appear to be mostly in the Aberdeen/Grays Harbor county area which has less expensive real estate (as a generalization) than Sequim or Port Townsend.

The Port Angeles School District has pre-school for DD kids and I'm sure they'd be happy for volunteers.

Given the Coast Guard presence in Port Angeles (and Neah Bay) as well as the Naval bases in nearby Bangor, Bremerton and Oak Harbor, I think the sentiment toward veterans is fine.

My parents found and bought a really good manufactured home on acreage in unincorporated Port Angeles for $74,000 - in 2002. It's now worth about $200k for the land, garage and barn, and because of the age the home is worth 0. Their neighbors just sold a small older big house on 25 acres for $300k.

The less expensive homes in the area are going to be single-wide mobiles or small cottages on very small lots (or condos). I would say that Port Angeles is your best chance, followed by Sequim, Port Townsend being the highest prices.
All could have something for you but it will take time and work to find. For PA I would think either in the downtown area, or out toward Joyce (north of town on highway 112).

100k..
Maybe a mobile outside of Port Townsend, look down by Port Hadlock or Chimacum.
Military is fine, whole area is pretty much a navel base. I would not exactly call it liberal in the country, more eclectic libertarian I suppose... Anything goes just so it ain't mainstream.. Ha!

Politically liberal place? Strike Sequim and Port Angeles off your list...PT is the place for you. But if you are ex-military I would keep it to yourself, PT is very anti-military.

Man you sure got a bug up your rear with PT.. Plenty of retired military here.. Heck a hell of a lot more military history and active here too! Hellllllooo Indian island is a stones throw away.
What BS.. The entire farming community of Sequim is no different than over here in Jefferson county. Maybe some crusty old crabs that transplanted from the big city are right wingers. But not the rest.

OP ignore him he just wants to keep people that do not think like him away.

Yep.. It is all a heck of a lot more alternative than most other places. (Note I did not say liberal or conservative.)
Find out for yourself if the vibe is a fit or not.
