We just drove through Port Townsend last Wednesday and OMG the smell. But we braved it and spent an enjoyable day browsing art shops. It's a nice town if you are upwind.

We were in Port Townsend last week with visiting family from out of state. We tried to prepare them for the smelly part of town--actually it's usually just before entering the town from the south (we live in Poulsbo), although it does depend on wind direction. Luckily it was just bad for a short while, but it's so horrible, I don't know how people can stand it close to the mill. We love Port Townsend, but hate the gaggy smell!

jobs... l0l!

Port Angeles would be my pick overall, more to do there, definitely closer to more of the outdoors (and Olympics). Port Townsend is isolated, smells on occasion and people are grumpy. Did I mention there are no jobs there? Now that the ferries have been shut down by the state, business will additionally be shutting down and laying off people.

Default P.A. Rain fall

It is strange how much difference there is between weather websites.
National and Local Weather Forecast, Radar, Map and Report shows a different rain fall total.

Port Angeles has an average of 9.6" per year more than Sequim
Sequim is reported to have approx 15-1/2" average per year.
That makes PA end up with 25.10" average per year. All I can say is I live in Sequim right under the "BLUE HOLE" and I cannot tell you how many times when I look to the west it has Dark Rain Clouds and we have blue skies here.

17" for PA just does not seem right to me.
Yes it is said for every mile west of PA add 1 inch per year.

I've visited Port Angeles, on my tour of the Peninsula... missed Port Townsend though. Would any of these towns have any high tech jobs? I know, that's a stretch considering they're all probably in the Bellevue area, but I really liked the "mountaintop to rain forest to ocean all in one day" thing, and Lake Crescent blew me away.

ElektroDragon,

Port Angeles in the sweet spot as far as location to all the items you mentioned except for the jobs. On that subject.......ROTSA..RUCK
My suggestion would be something like this. Move to Belleveue or the surrounding neighborhood for your employement, and take your vacation in August/September to the pennisula. We did that for years and it worked fine. October to May sucks as far as weather anyway with the exception of a nicer day or two now and then.
When you get critical mass you can retire to the area of your choice.

Good Luck,

Silverfox

Good luck!

I'm curious what you mean by "strange"... strange how?????

Also... about the paper mill... how much smell does it produce in town and surrounding area??

Thanks!

OUCH.. when I read that, I thought of a big city!

Port Angeles does not have a "highway" but the way I see it, the main highway stops just as you enter town and then its just a regular 4 laned road with stop lights and businesses lined along it, like any other town. It then proceeds up hill on a 2 laned road up through the heart of town, then goes out another couple miles until the end of "town", it turns back into a 4 laned road with speed limit 55 or so. It can get really slow during weekends or 4-6 o'clock traffic. BUT certainly No highway!!!

Its beautiful out here but sadly theres no jobs other than CNA work or min wage...
YES, lots of rain and gray days.
