Default just moved to Sequim...

I just relocated to Sequim and I LOVE it here. We live on a hill just west of town with views over the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Vancouver Island, and Mt Baker to the east. The lovely Olympic Mountains dominate the view to the south. It is a truly lovely area. Lots of friendly folks. All the shopping I need, with a Safeway, QFC, Walmart, several fast-food eateries, as well as some very fine dining.
I have no problems with Walmart, with the cost of everyday goods climbing daily, I usually get the best price there. Wish they had a Supercenter.
Looking forward to my first Lavender Festival in mid-July.
If you love the outdoors, this is the place for you. From Olympic National Park to the Dungeness Recreation Area, there's much outdoor activity here. Lavender farms aplenty. Right now there is much in bloom with rhododendrons, azaleas, and lilacs dominating. Beautiful! While I've only been here a short time, I can't say enough good things about Sequim.
One of the major factors for relocating here is the fact that Sequim is the driest place in western Washington.

The primary Mold problem in Sequim is Roof Mold. If you have an asphalt shingle roof it will get roof mold (Black in color). It takes a few years to start but it will take hold. Plan on cleaning your roof every 7/8 years or replacing it in 12/15 or so. Doesn't destroy the roofing material but is ugly to look at and damaging to remove. It prevails on the north side of the roof and thrives on ingredients in asphalt shingles. Probably as much or more roof damage from high winds here. There are other types of mold here but usually are caused by leaks in your house without proper repairs being made promptly.

Default Night Life

I think most of the night life now is down at the Seven Cedars Casino for dancing. There really isn't any place to actively meet people unless you join up with the community center in Sequim. I'm in my 50's, but most the people I know are in their 50's & 60's. The only way we met a lot of them was through the Peninsula Dream Machines.

We moved here three years ago and I met someone a few weeks ago that has been here for five years and she said it's really hard to meet someone close. I think if you're an introvert, it will be hard for you and it doesn't matter where you go, it will be hard. But what you put out is what you receive, so put your best foot forward and talk to people. I haven't met anyone I truly disliked, except for someone who is always complaining about someone else to make themselves look better. I have an excuse, I own a store and don't get out much.

But we socialize with friends by having BBQ's or having neighbors over and playing CatchPhrases (keeps your mind actively young). Sequim has a lot of retirees and most of the kids that grow up in Sequim tend to leave to find better jobs. This is a very depressed area, but it's full of wonderful people of all ages.

PA has not changed much - large small town, but not a bad place to be.

Good luck
I used to love Sequim and it's quaintness. But when they let in the huge corporate box stores, it took away from the wonderful small town aires. But that is progress unfortunately. You would have to move to rural Montana to find that small town sense of community. Now it's real estate agents taking over the Chamber of Commerce and the building plans seem to plop them down without plans or mandatory beautification. Both Sequim & P.A. have their positives and their negatives, but the Peninsula is definitely the place to be. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else...look at the extreme weather the rest of the country is having. We just stay the same, cool and damp!
