'It is very pleasant the first 4-5 months. After a while you will find yourself at Barnes & Nobles bookstore researching ways to commit suicide. It's very depressing to see gray skies every day. There IS sun during July and August but its SO humid -- most apartments & homes DONT have A/C. Thats right, NO air conditioning is normal. So those months can be brutal'

I don't know where you're from but July and August in Seattle is so beautiful and pleasant. My place along with most others don't have a/c here because we don't need it. Yes NO AIR is normal. Maybe you're from the desert but even with low humidity, it's blazing hot. I can only take Las Vegas and Phoenix for 2 or 3 days and I'm ready to come home.

21.6 more inches of precip/year on avg. in Seattle than Spokane. So it 's not just less rain because of more snow, it's less rain because of less precip.

Snow is "cooler".

But it sure is totally gorgeous in Washingston State.
Washington IS beautiful, but missing the sun can be a big deal if you're not used to it. We moved to Spokane from New England but that didn't prepare us for gray skies for months and snow every morning. They also don't plow the roads very well here, so it's not always easy to get around. If you love snow and can put up with VERY gray winters, you might love Spokane. It is sunny in the summer. If you come here, rent our house so we can move home!

I speak for established areas and NOT new construction. Far from insane, matter of fact - look to see how many AC companies there are for residential, there is not too many when compared to lets say Boston, MA or Des Moines IA.

Here is the real deal. Hot & Nice summers fluctuate, maybe you experienced A good summer, thats right but lately that is rare to see. But its IS very normal to not have A/C and in my opinion insane. Think about the circulation of air in your home or apartment - if you don't circulate that air its not good for you.

I wanted to add that people here seem to be from another planet. It seems as if they are not easily impressed. Today there was a Tornado in Spokane, WA. No one seemed shocked. There could be a 6.0 earthquake and all people would probably care about is that they could still get their Venti Latte from Starbucks

AC is nice, but really only needed a few days a year in W. Wa. Open a window and you'll get all the air circulation you need.

No tornado in Spokane today. Some snow, but the tornado was in Vancouver.

I am looking for a place that has good schools, low crime, small town such as 30,000 people and under, things to do, good health care, clean water and air. I looked at my pictures and the state is beautiful! I would rent the first year to see how I enjoyed it. I would like to keep the rent at $2,000 a month or under. Jobs don't matter at all. Any help would be appreciated.

If jobs dont matter, you'll find a place for that amount of rent....it's very expensive here but 2K is enough. If you want a lot of sun, it's not the place for you. I love it here, but it seems much sunnier in the midwest...because even when it's 30 below zero it's still bright. It's gray off and on with "sunbreaks" from at least Oct. through May. There are sunny days here and there....but I would never say it was "sunny." It is however gorgeous, very green, beautiful mountains, the clean air/schools/low crime stuff just depends on the area that you move to. During the 3 months or so in the summer (@end of June/July/Aug/some Sept) it is perfect!...not too hot, not too cold....many people have boats but no air conditioning...and no getting eaten alive by mosquitos! It's generally a pretty "healthy" state.

In western WA, which I think is by far the prettiest part of the state, the town of Sequim supposedly has the most sunny days and people are retiring there more and more. Traffic is a big consideration so beware living anywhere near a bigger city. Lots of outdoorsy things to do, especially along the coast or the Olympic peninsula area.

The REAL DEAL is you really do not need a/c here in Seattle. I have lived in Seattle for over 8 years and have yet to beg for any a/c. I was in the 2001 earthquake and the last thing we were thinking about was a latte. Please!!

The tornado was in Vancouver Washington and many were shocked since its a rare occurrance. It was the first story on all the local news stations.
