Commute from Port Townsend to Seattle

Hello
I would love some comments on the commute
to Seattle to Port Townsend on a daily basis.
Anyone done it?
Any suggestions?

If you decide to try daily commuting from Port Townsend to Seattle, at least rent a place without a lease until you're sure--don't buy yet. I don't know how long a commute you would consider too long, but I sure wouldn't advise it. For example, from Poulsbo it takes us an average 1.5-2 hrs to get into Seattle (door-to-door, depending on where we're going and if we get on the boat, traffic, etc). Add another 45 min or so coming from Port Townsend, and you'd have a minimum 4-5 hr daily commute. Factor in the upcoming longterm construction on Hood Canal bridge, and the scenario to commute from PT becomes even worse. Unless the passenger-only ferry from Seattle to PT is reinstated (no reason to believe it will be), that commute would get very tiresome & expensive.
Personally, as much as we love living here, we wouldn't even do a daily commute from central or north Kitsap. Although I know many people here who do it, none are very happy about their commute time. Have you considered Gig Harbor? It still wouldn't be an easy commute, but the new Narrows bridge has improved traffic issues getting on and off the peninsula at the south end, and at least you wouldn't be ferry dependent. Also, check out Camano Island--it's beautiful up there, and possibly within commuting distance for you. Traffic will be an issue, but that's not news.
Good luck with your search!
Lynn

Excellent advice, Lynn.
I can't believe, from a practical standpoint, that anyone would want to commute daily from Port Townsend to Seattle. Perhaps if you stayed in the city during the work week and went home to Port Townsend on the week-ends, it would be workable.
As I've stated before, I'm one for spending the least amount of time commuting. The less time commuting, the more time you're spending with your family and more time spent on recreational activities, etc.

Don't do it!!! I lived in Port Townsend and LOVED it there. I had to commute into Seattle three days a week - HORRIBLE!! I tried every ferry\drive combination you can think of - you are looking at 2 1/2 (rarely) to 3 hours in LOW traffic time. It is BRUTAL and draining. I agree with Lynn, rent a place on a month to month basis.

I've commuted from Port Angeles to various places in the Seattle metro area for about 12 years now, at times on a daily basis and staying over during the week.
To each, their own then. I dont mind it.

Commute from Port Townsend to Seattle? TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE unless you have your own plane. Even then it'd be a nightmare every day. Really, don't even bother renting a place for a few months because it won't work.
Try this: pick any location 3 hrs from where you work right now and imagine doing that commute every day. Enough said?
If you really want to live in Port Townsend but work in Seattle, the most realistic option by far is to rent an apartment in Seattle and commute to Port Townsend for the weekends. Until teleporting is invented, that's the best I can come up with.
