I am looking for an area to get a away for a couple of days with the family that is less than three hours from Seattle. We enjoy watercraft rentals, scenic bike rides (not on major roads, large park is preferred or easy trails) and several choices for nice but casual restaurants. We have been to Lake Chelan several times and just wanted to experience and explore a different area for some family fun. Moses Lake and Wenatchee sounded like they might work but would love to get opinions.

Wenatchee sounds more to your liking. Moses Lake is ok but it is really not geared towards tourists. Have to find your own entertainment.
How did you miss Leavenworth?? For a vacation spot it has everything that tourists are looking for. See the web site: Leavenworth, Washington The Bavarian Village |

I definitely recommend Moses Lake. They have a very cute water park and big, beautifully maintained park on the lake. It's a small, cozy town perfect for bike riding and walking, safely and comfortably around the town. Decent restaurants and lots of great, down-home friendliness and hospitality. MUCH better than Wenatchee, unless you need a Wal Mart.

Moses Lake has a WalMart too <g> the only reason I ever went to Wenatchee was for Costco haha. I've lived in ephrata - my daughter lives in Moses Lake - it's a very clean nice town but it isn't laid out very well for entertainment. Great park tho - the lake is nice. There are wonderful fourth of July entertainment, love to watch the fireworks over the lake....Wenatchee is nice too - bigger town. It's kind of 6 of one and half dozen of the other. Why not explore both?

If you are looking for a place for just a couple of days to ride bikes and rent watercraft in the middle of winter, I suspect that Moses Lake would probably be a better choice as Wenatchee had snow on the ground on the 15th when you posted your question.
Even in Moses Lake, I'm wondering if there are any places in the middle of winter that will be renting watercraft. It's awfully cold out there on the lake in January. |
