Talking Moving to Sequim from AK

Hello--
My Husband, myself and 15 month-old daughter are moving to Sequim from Anchorage, AK-- next month. We're looking forward to the move although it's last-minute. We've read great things about Sequim and the surrounding area; and have loved it every time we've visited.
We can't seem to find any information about activities for young children. We need to find a pediatrition for our daughter; as well as, activities? Are these both things we'll need to travel to Port Angeles for? Any advice welcome
Thank you in advance for any re

Hi, ca, and welcome to this area! You will have SO MUCH less rain in Sequim than you've had in Anchorage! :-)

About a pediatrician: here are two terrific resources --

UCompare Health Care from About.com
Doctors in Sequim, WA (Washington Physicians)
This lists 4 pediatricians in Sequim who apparently specialize in adolescent medicine (who knew there was such a specialty??).

The Health Grades website is:
Pediatrics Washington (WA) - Find Local Pediatricians - Reports & Ratings
They indicate no pediatrician in Sequim (as of that database, anyway), and several in Pt. Angeles. Pt. Angeles is only a few minutes' drive from Sequim and because both towns are rather small, they sort of "share" some resources. If you were to decide to live at the west end of Sequim, you'd almost be in Pt. Angeles.

In any event, I've found the folks in Sequim to be friendly and helpful, and I'm sure as soon as you arrive you can start asking everyone you encounter, and they'll give you their best information.

In regard to children's activities, I'm sure someone knowledgeable will come on this thread to reply. Have a great move!!

I think a lot of former Alaskans are moving to the Peninsula. My husband and I were originally from Kenai and are moving to Sequim in May. I'm sure we will both find the weather MUCH nicer.

I hope you find all the services you are looking for. I'm sure you will. Most people down here consider the Olympic rather rustic, but by Alaskan standards it has MUCH more infrastructure than up there.

Best of luck with your move!

I just posted a thread today, because I too (along with Husband and two young girls) am moving to Sequim in the next couple of weeks and have been trying to research and find kid friendly areas :>) we were trying to buy but not sure what area, so now talking about renting for a few months to get to know the area?

Default Sequim Living

We like Sequim, I think your best bet would be to move to Sequim and rent for a few months and then buy. It's a small town but it's spread out from hillside to water. If you like to garden then you'll want a house with Southern exposure and a great view of the Olympics. Most people here are a lot older but there are families too. There are fantastic parks and as of late the weather has been fantastic so lots of stuff to do with kids of all ages; u-pick berries and flowers, hiking, etc.
We like the Peninsula Children's Clinic for our daughter's Pediatrician. Their main office is in Port Angeles, but they have an office in Sequim that's open 2 days a week and is a brand new facility. We still have a few years until we have to worry about schools, so I don't quite know the low-down on that.
Good luck to you and I wish you and your family happy, safe, cry-free travels.
CA
