While you're working and looking for more opportunities, get started on these processes with the State Department. It can take up to two years to get hired on with the DOS, but it might be the best application of your education and background.

If so, your comment is a massive over-simplification. King and Snohomish counties have low unemployment, but the rest of Western WA is about the same as Eastern WA, and worse than some areas.

More the Puget Sound Basin ("Pugetopolis") vs the rest of the state.

I wasn't just referring to unemployment rates, but wages and cost of living. SE Washington, for instance, has lower unemployment right now, but is generally rural with low population-density - wages and cost of living are generally lower.
