The biggest factors behind people moving to Texas is the lower cost of living and jobs in an energy-sector driven economy - I doubt they are primarily moving there for the heat, drought, tornadoes, etc. Seattle and Austin (the closest thing to Seattle in the South) have been neck-and-neck as the fastest growing cities in the country. The person I was replying to was complaining about Tacoma, not Spokane.
I'm from Texas and cannot wait to get back. Every part of the country has it's downside.

I'm frustrated with the housing prices, impossible traffic (go anywhere, plan for an hour drive), cold, rain and gray skies. Summers are nice, but a/c is rare. Try living in a home in 100 degree heat with only a 110v a/c. Not fun.

My husband is from the Tacoma area and even he is looking forward to moving!

The reality is that weather where they're coming from (too hot, humid, or frigid) is at or close to the top of the list of stated reasons on this forum why people want to move here. Jobs would be another.

As I said, far be it for me to discourage anyone from leaving our state. It isn't for everyone, nor should it be. All too many see only the rosy side. COL, traffic, and live entertainment are MUCH better in Las Vegas, for instance, and they've got air conditioning everywhere...

Moving back in December and will be very, very happy to see Western WA in my rear view mirror!!
Ironic, as I lived in Fort Worth, and I felt there was nothing there but dirt, heat, sun, wind, bugs, traffic, more dirt, more sun, more traffic, even more heat, even bigger bugs, well you get the drift....
Lol

I will be renting, I have a small dog and cat and looking for fairly safe neighborhood. I do have a car and don't mind driving to a good grocery market or to a shopping center, however I prefer to walk or ride a bike. I want to be next to or be able to see the beautiful scenery. That is

CraftyGirl70 out .....looking forward to some get responses
No specific advice but I moved here from DC and I don't think I'll ever get used to people calling the DC area DMV. That said, good luck with the move!! (And it is a good place to live, but I do wish to move back to DC eventually).
