Our family is making a move from up north for employment reasons and are considering Marysville or Everett. Since we have small ones will be attending school, schools are another consideration. Can anyone give me information on what living in these cites are like. Safety, cost of living and schools. Any other city closer to Seattle anyone can tell us about?

Since you picked those two spots, are you looking for more crime or less?

Everett is often overlooked. It isn't perfect but has some pretty neat qualities. The downtown core is quite charming, preserved vintage buildings. The waterfront has the second biggest public marina on west coast, neat restaurants, concerts, farmers markets. Historic North Everett and Rucker Hill are delightfully intact historic neighborhoods, $350,000 will get you a great home, $450,000 a very nice home. Jetty Island is a favorite of kite surfers and Washington State's only "warm water" beach. Whittier Elementary in North Everett has a very good reputation.

That is an interesting couple of cities, since both are know for their high crime rate. When you see a low home/rental price, it means either too far away from good jobs, high crime or both. Everett has it's nice areas, with higher prices, and it's not that bad in general but some places like the many apartments on Casino are visited many times daily by the police, who wait for backup before entering. Marysville is better on the east side of I5, but in the less expensive reservation areas off of Marina Drive west of I5 the drug and alcohol abuse problems are hard to miss. I would go east to Snohomish, Monroe, or north to Arlington.

Live closer to Lake Stevens.

Do not live close to the reservation. Due to a quirk in tribal vs federal vs state laws, there is a lot of really bad behavior going on near and on tribal land.

Everett has good parts to it, but check the crime statistics closely. The heroin epidemic is hitting that area hard, so look at theft rates and choose wisely.

When I moved to Everett 8 years ago, the one consistent suggestion was to stay south of Casino Rd. While it was a good suggestion at the time, I can't deny that what I avoided initially by staying south (obvious drug use, and "police visits") have crept down. I'd personally head north or east at this point.

Consider Edmonds, OP. Much more family-friendly than Everett, charming, on the water.

I guess I got my answer! Clearly the answer is a big no. But thank you for indirectly answering. I do not know very much about these 2 cities and get some very conflicting information from others. We needed to stay in this vicinity due to employment.
