Live outside of Washington state. Considering offer(s) of employment.

I am wondering if it's reasonable to commute via car from Langley Oak Harbor to Edmonds or Everett. I don't know the area and looking for a few pointers. Commute time 6am leaving the Island and 8pm coming back.

Cheers.

The x-factor is waiting for the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry if driving on - it can also be expensive (see the WSF site).

Alternatively, you could ride Island Transit (free) to Clinton, walk onto the ferry (no wait) to Mukilteo, and then catch Sounder commuter rail to Edmonds or Community Transit to Everett.

From my experience, in the morning by car an hour and a half to Everett, add another 30 minutes to Edmonds. As you approach Everett from Marysville you will run into heavy traffic from Boeing workers, and Everett to Edmonds will be heavy all the way. You can probably take 15-20 minutes off the time going home at 8pm, much of the traffic will have thinned out by then, except for on Fridays in summer when weekend vacationers will add to the congestion. Some people consider that a reasonable commute, for the benefits of living on Whidbey. Another way to go is drive 15 minutes to Clinton, by ferry from Clinton to Mukilteo another 30 minutes, then drive to Everett in about 20 minutes, total just over an hour, but additional cost for the ferry of $6.70/day each way.

Hmm. sounds like what I am trying to get away from. How is living in Mukilteo or a town closer to Everett? We can always go to the Island on our days off.

Some people park separate cars in Clinton and Mukilteo, to drive to and from the terminals, but walk onto the ferry.

Depending on where you're working, there might be vanpools available. I know there are Boeing workers that do that, because they can get more house for their money in Oak Harbor.

If working in Edmonds, you could live in North Kitsap (Poulsbo, etc.) and take the Kingston-Edmonds ferry. Pretty much the same deal.

Appreciate your responses.

While the Islands sound rich in culture and low stress on the other side of the Ferry line these areas (Edmonds) sounds densely populated (people scurrying all which ways). Would this generally be accurate?

The area around 104 and the ferry terminal Edmonds are busy, and will only get more so with the possible future increase in trains going through. Go up in the hills, or north of Edmonds on the water side of Lynnwood and you will find very peaceful, quiet areas and nice homes with water views.

Thank you.

We are flying to Seattle and probably take about 10 days to travel around including Edmonds, Whidbey, south to north, Anacortes, Bellingham. Suggestions appreciated and valued.

One question. I work as an R.N. If anyone happens to know if the major players (Providence Sweedish) union shops? I found it interesting at least on salary calc site that salaries are higher in Everett (smaller than) Bellingham. Everett is smaller than Edmonds right?

If there are any events for this time of year community (if luck has it) please let me know?

Thanks in advance.

Everett is bigger than Edmonds. Think of Edmonds as a town and Everett as a city. I would guess salary is higher in Everett due to Boeing and proxcimity to Bellevue/Seattle.
