Hi, I'm moving from Texas to Bellevue for work in a few months. Since renting seems pretty high, I'm looking into buying a home eventually. I was wondering what the general costs of home ownership was in WA. Like TX, WA doesn't have a state income tax, but property taxes appear to be higher in TX, averaging around 2% including city, school districts, etc.

Do most homes come with a HOA in WA, what are the typical property cost %s, etc that I should be looking out for if I'm wanting to purchase a home as soon as possible when I get there?

Thanks,
Julia

The cost to buy is much higher in Bellevue than anywhere in Texas but other costs are similar or lower in the case of property taxes. Who knows what the property price will do in the future but they seem pretty inflated right now in Bellevue but Bellevue is really nice so maybe those prices will keep rising.

I moved from Texas to the PNW and prefer PNW.

Because Bellevue has good schools, low crime, a median family income of $93,000, and 62% college graduates, they tend to vote for additional levies on the property taxes, as do most eastside cities. Most single family homes are in the $550-700k range, townhomes start around $250k for older apartment conversions, and go up into the millions. While all condos/townhomes have an HOA, not that many single family homes do, because there are not many newer developments. The more affordable areas are Lake Hills and Eastgate, with mid-century homes starting to show their age. The closer you get to downtown and the water, the higher home prices get.
