Bring your healthcare.... After 43 yrs employment in USA, I'm without pension or healthcare. Our 'benevolent company' got transformed by a new CEO who raided our cash and pensions. Then she got fired and took an additional $14m to send her packing.

Of late she was a US presidential candidate.

You will LOVE the USA.

I have been enjoying the last 3 months in OZ and NZ, A good place to be during PNW winter. Even better during a USA election yr..

Fortunately I threw my TV away in 1968.

Aussies ask a lot of questions about the state of USA politics ! The whole world (Including USA) is wondering

Regarding living in WA... Living and working in WA ( no income tax) and living in the Columbia Gorge on Oregon border (no sales / GST tax) is pretty sweet if you like windsurfing / mtn biking / skiing / hiking / pics / Oregon coast / NICE, fast, and cheap airport / Portland culture ...

Imagine recreation out your door with no / very little traffic. salmon fishing 5 min from home. Great wages and jobs, for lower housing costs than Seattle metro.

Lynnwood is nice to visit every couple months.

Bellingham would be another good choice. (If you prefer being close to recreation, rather than a parking lot / freeway.)

Thanks for the feedback guys, my only issue is getting a job there and I've heard real estate can be quite expensive.

According to my favorite COL calculator, Seattle is 16% more expensive overall than Brisbane but incomes are higher resulting in a 4% advantage for Brisbane in an economic sense. I've never been to Brisbane but the climate appears to be to my liking and almost ideal and you have the beach. I love Seattle but I would be tempted to go with Brisbane without family connections. Seattle has a strong economy and is a gorgeous area but it's a bit pricey and the winters are not to my liking. I do love the mountains in the summer when you can hike them. I guess one option could be try one, then try the other and see which one works better for you.

Here's hoping for a speedy visa process!

American Expat, Queensland has a bit of a reputation, it is basically Australia's Florida, just with salties.
