I'm not sure I follow you... are you saying the Bush Administration is responsible for Washington State's high property crime rating?

When are idealists going to realize that radicals hate us and thugs just want our stuff. "Ideally" we would all like peace....."realistically" I'm covering my ass.

I'd like to respond to your message "It's drugs, gangs, and a lax judicial system." I'd like to say that it is the war within individuals that perpetuates violence. Here's how to heal the war. Believe we are worthy of peace, not punishment. And from then on great communication within ourselves and between each other creates peaceful relations.

When people take it upon themselves to look within, and connect with others creating understanding, then peace will reign. Let us all heal the war within and keep on communicating no matter what.

It's kind of hard to think peaceful thoughts when someone has ripped you off and taken something you've worked very hard to obtain. While violent crime deserves its priority in law enforcement, ignoring property crimes does nothing to dissuade their continuance. All crime is a personal violation as anyone who has ever been a victim can attest. There is no peace in the soul of the person who would make your possessions his own, only greed. He would welcome your thoughts of peace as he disappeared with your belongings.

Peace is a lofty ideal, but a rather generic concept that blows away like smoke in the wind when dealing with a tweaker. Criminals don't need to be understood and forgiven, they need to be caught and punished.

If it makes you feel any better, while the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.) ranks 51st in population, it ranks 1st in violent crime, murder, robbery, aggravated assault, and motor vehicle theft per capita, with property crime running a close 2nd.

I wonder if it has anything to do with all those politicians that hang around on the street corners up there? Maybe they need to "Give Peace a Chance"!

I guess Washington State isn't so bad after all.

So much property crime in the Seattle area. Business owners starting to hire private security. Few good crime prevention companies are Central Protection INC. - Security Guards Services Seattle, Security Services Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Tacoma, Security Officers Seattle, www.hwainc.com...

Daughter's car was stolen in Seattle, cops found it but obviously made no effort to try to figure out who stole it. At least in Seattle they just don't prioritize on property crimes, I guess it's just the liberal tree-hugger "no blood, no foul" attitude...

Shoreline Bound -

Property crime happens. It mostly happens when people do not secure their stuff, and Washingtonians tend to have an ugly habit of not paying attention to their surroundings and securing their stuff.

The truth about it is, it happens more often in the places where people dont expect it to. Large crowded areas, 'nice' parts of town, these are places where people let their guards down assuming the crowds or the locals 'arent criminals'. Thats exactly what thieves and burglars look for. Not the place where the people are going to 'expect' trouble, the places where people are not.

I don't think they give a crap honestly, they just want your money. My wife sat thru 3 hours of court for a speeding ticket given in front of a school after school was in session and the flashing lights were off. During this court session we watched several obvious gang members with rap sheets a mile long get spared jail time and fines cut in 1/2 or dropped. Then my wife gets up to the pulpit WITH a note from the school saying the lights weren't working right-one direction was off while the other was on- and the judge cut her every explaination short, said she just disregarded the lights and made her pay in full.
