I'll be coming to Washington July 5-8th with my family and we are stuck between staying at a hotel in ocean shoes or Port Angeles. My mother who loves agate hunting is sick and this will probably be her last trip. I would love to find a good Beach to take her to, any advice would be much appreciated. We haven't decided where we will stay yet but I'm aiming towards port Angeles in Olympic National park. Cheers.

We found an abundance of them at Ocean Shores. It was a cool overcast day so we practically had the place to ourselves. No signs of other beachcombers. July you'd definitely have some competition. Haven't been up to Port Angeles so can't compare that for you. I've read that Newport, OR is the best place.

Damon Point, at the south end of Ocean Shores, looks to be the best place for agates. In general, the North Beaches (Ocean Shores to Moclips) are "rockier" than the South Beaches (Westport to Tokeland).

For a great beach with easy access (parking lot, with restrooms/water, right off the beach), look at Rialto Beach. It has rocky beaches, tide pools (starfish, sea anemones, hermit crabs), eagles, sea otters, lots of driftwood, pounding surf, and sea stacks.

You can stay at the Quileute Oceanside Resort (on First Beach in La Push), the Manitou Lodg, or at several motels in Forks. Also close to the Hoh River Valley rainforest.
