I am looking at a job located in downtown Olympia. I am trying to figure out if it would be a good fit for my family. What would the best community to live within a 45 minute commute?

Some things to consider:
*My husband will be transitioning to a stay at home dad with 2 kids under 4. It is important to him to be able to walk to attractions like the grocery store, parks, restaurants.
*Transit access is a plus.
*Decent preschool and school options. Preferably public schools.
*Community Involvement events/activities would be a plus since we will know no one.

Thank you.

Everything you posted says to live in Olympia. Why live 45 minutes away?

What the Donkey ^ said....

Olympia, Tumwater, Lacey, all three towns are together and roughly similar in size and quality of schools.

A bit concerned about your importance on walking to grocery stores and restaurants because that will really limit you. This is not an area that lives and walks within a few blocks. We live in suburbs and we shop in mega big box groceries across town. Restaurants are miles apart.

You will need an SUV Your odds of finding all that within walking distance are not very good.

I just moved to Olympia and can walk most places I need to. Some people have different ideas of what's walkable however. I'm about 5 minutes from Trader Joes or Haggens if I need a few groceries. The mall is like a 10-15 minute walk. There are quite a few places to eat within walking distance as well. Yauger park is right by the mall also. I'm in west Olympia if you haven't yet guessed :P There are quite a few apartment complexes in the vicinity to look at. Downtown is about a 45 minute walk from where I am btw.

Why wouldn't you live in Olympia, OP? Are you not able to afford it, and are looking farther out?

Default Options

I can live in Olympia. My rental budget for a 2 bedroom/2 bath is max $1,500, but I would really prefer to stay under $1,200. What do utilities like gas, power, water, and cable average?

Any information of schools particularly preschools.

That made me laugh.
I think of attractions differently, but I know what you are getting it.
