Another one I highly recommend you add to your list: Bellingham. In particular, the South Hill and Fairhaven neighborhoods. Also, the Columbia neighborhood on the other side of town. I live on Orcas Island, and am originally from San Juan Island....hardly any victorians on either island. We lived in Bellingham for 3 years, and loved it. I commuted to Seattle 2-3 times per week, and didn't mind. Also, when possible, I prefer to fly out of Bellingham's airport...much less crowded, and has service to quite a few places. When that doesn't work, we often use Vancouver, BC, even coming from San Juans, as tix tend to be cheaper due to the exchange rate.

Bellingham looks absolutely charming and there are quite a few lovely homes that I came across while looking at real estate in that area. Thank you for the tip, I will keep my eye on Bellingham listings for sure! Since you lived there for a few years, I'm curious what you thought of the population level. It looks more like a small city rather than a small town, so I'm wondering if it ever felt over-crowded or congested. I read that Bellingham has a lot of cyclists and that people often walk into town, so even if its a small city it could still have that "small town" feel. Would love to hear more about your experience living there, if you don't mind sharing
