Commute - Gig Harbor to Federal Way?
We are potentially relocating and I was wondering what you think the commute time from GH to Federal Way would be. On Google maps, the distance is 22 miles - would I be safe to assume 45 min in rush hour?
Thank you!

That's a pretty safe bet. Obviously depends on what part of GH and where in FW. My wife used to commute from GH to SeaTac (North of FW) and it was about 45min, but could be upwards of an hour (that was before the new bridge, which has really sped things up).

Nooooo, that would be bad. You would have to cross the Tacoma Narrows bridge which takes and ETERNITY during rush hour, that or take a ferry. I'd recomend living somewhat closer to work.

WHAT?? The Bridge hasn't had traffic since July when they opened the new one. I came back from SeaTac (North of Fed Way) last Friday at 4:30pm and it took 38min. Once you hit HWY16's new extended stretch you don't slow down. The bridge is wide open now.
Take a ferry to Federal Way?? You'd have to drive 25min north to Port Orchard, ferry about 45min to Seattle, then drive 25min south to Federal Way. From my office in North Gig Harbor to the Federal Way office of our company is 25-30min at any time of day.

I used to live in PO and drive to Seattle daily in the recent past and it took me just over an hour to get to South Seattle...so from the harbor to Federal Way in 45 on a good day (ofcourse without an auto accident with rubber neckers) you should be fine...

Traffic is not the issue on the Narrows that it used to be. It flows pretty well during rush hour. I wouldn't worry about that. You're likely to find more traffic around the Tacoma Dome and into Fife on I-5 than the Narrows.

This commentor must not have visited Gig Harbor in quite some time, because there is now no traffic going over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. They built a new bridge, and the traffic flows very smoothly at all times.
I definately think that 45 minutes is a safe bet. Depending on where you live in Gig Harbor, I would guess you could probably make it there in a half hour.
