Parkland to me is a part of tacoma.Travel on Pacific Av which starts downtown tacoma on 1st/pacific and travel to 100th/pacific and you never know that you left tacoma and you are in parkland. If you missed it you are in spanaway. It all runs together.Parkland is near everything.5 minutes to the I-5 freeway,15 minutes to 2 large malls,45 minutes to Seatac Airport.McChord Air forces base is in the backyard.Supermarkets all around.Everything you need is close by.Lots of older medium and lower priced houses with Flowers and fruit Trees. Some duplexes and apartments.PLU pacific lutheran university is right there.Pierce Transit Bus transit center is right there.People are nice and friendly like all over the area.People of all ages live there.I go there at least onces a week.
Any questions?

I lived in Parkland but it has been a few years - I live near Olympia now. There are worse areas to live but it has a higher crime rate than it used to. Marita is right on the money, especially about the conveniences.

I would not recommend living there at all. Near Pacific Avenue there is a fair amount of crime and gang activity. PLU students do live off-campus but with some trepidation. The PLU dorms are all now locked 24/7 because of neighborhood hoodlums coming onto campus and causing trouble.

Now, the area is convenient, especially if you're military, but I think you can do better (try Summit/Waller or Frederickson areas). If you do choose the area, some places are being gentrified. East of Pacific Ave at about 152nd there's some nice areas, but I do have friends there who've been robbed recently, multiple times.

If you can afford to, you can do much better.

I know you can get low income section 8 in Parkland if that is the question.

Parkland like Lakewood differnt animal - PLU the univeristy great... assisted living some of the highest in the state if I needed to have family in nursing home etc here! - Parkland some of the biggest meth area in the state... couple blocks away from eachother - Parkland is no place you want move without looking at it - vrs living on Mt St Helens or Hawaii.... two streets can make a differnce. I talked my mother into moving into a nice neighborhood in Spanaway but it is also the same... some nice some not so nice. she is nice (expect for the horrible dogs next door) but nice gated sub burb...

if you have specific questions could maybe figure out for you - just to let you know car and house insurance goes up around the base areas - McChord and Ft Lewis not drasitc but more
