Default Ward Lake Area in Olympia

Is this a good area to raise a family who is looking for low crime, good schools, and doable commute to downtown. Thank you.

Yes, this is a great area! I have nothing but good things to say about it!

The schools are outstanding. That area typically attends Centennial or Pioneer Elementary, Washington M.S. and Olympia H.S. which are all good. Check out this link to view information about the schools: Olympia Schools - Olympia Public Schools - Olympia School Ratings - Best Olympia Schools Ward Lake is in zip code 98501 for searching for housing.

The area is very safe and family friendly. There is a lot to do in Olympia for both families and singles: lakes, parks, museums, shopping, etc. It is about one hour to Seattle (in no traffic) and 30 minutes to Tacoma. Ward Lake is about five minutes to downtown Olympia.

Balco,

The Ward Lake area is an excellent place to raise a family. Like the previous poster mentioned, it is served by excellent schools. Within walking distance one can go to the Briggs YMCA, which offer an abundance of programs. You can reach Pioneer Park, boasting soccer fields, baseball fields, a trail and a playground. Pioneer Park is especially popular for inner tubing down the Deschutes river in the summer. You can also walk to Watershed Park, which offers trails in a densely wooded setting. Another nice park in the vicinity is LBA Park. The interstate is easily reached by driving down Henderson Blvd. in either direction, or as an alternate route down Yelm Highway. All the shopping amenities and restaurants are located within a 5-10 minute drive to either Lacey, Tumwater or Olympia. Downtown Olympia is only a bike ride, bus ride, or 10 minute car ride away.

Sandy
