Unseasonably Hot in SW WA. Expect 100F (again), rare for as late as Sept, but May is / was also a very hot season here. Thank goodness for "Whole-House-Fan" and cool evenings (No A/C).

Looks to be a trend of Hotter summers and cooler winters (they somewhat related). Time to invest in a high clearance 4x4 w/ AC that gets 50 mpg on free cooking oil

The summers generally have been getting much hotter. Or maybe more accurately, there have been big heat waves that never used to happen. Get used to it; this is the new "normal".

That requires frequent filter changes, but yes, that's one way to go. That strategy has a following in CO and NM, IDK about elsewhere. It used to be possible to buy gallon jugs of soy oil (the cheapest veggie oil) from Costco for around the current price of gas, but I haven't seen that for a long time. Can't even find that online; the only bulk soy oil I can find online comes in huge drums. Has anyone here looked into that, and had better luck?

Join the rest of the world, and don't use Soy Oil for WVO or Bio Diesel (BD) .

In USA the US Soybean council owns the US Biodiesel Board and sets ASTM spec, (LOTS of excess soy oil from processing cattle feed.) in USA a new engine is ONLY warrantied with maximum 5% BD

Europe land gets Brasserie (Canola and equivalent) Their engine warranties are good for 100% BD

Nightmares of USA bus / WA ferries failures trying to use Soy based BD.
Better use for soy based is to take the normal route as slimy waste fryer oil shipped to China (From Tacoma port) and returns to USA as high dollar cosmetics. (Lipstick!)

Hopefully algae BD will blossom before the next OPEC embargo. (Works well in airplanes and ships).

WA HOT summer is OK (preferred) for WVO cars!

Today is nice and cool!, time to get some work done on the roof (Prepare for winter)

From a State standpoint, 2015 was hotter than this year. However, this year was hotter than 2016. These are natural variations and little can be read into them, except that temps are warmer here in the mid to late 2010's than perhaps recent decades.

Here is an example:

Tri-Cities, WA (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick) # of 100 degree days:

2015: 22
2016: 5
2017: 11 (but expected triple digits this weekend)

Pretty much and it's certainly just not here that is affected by it.

Globally speaking, reports are that last year was the warmest on record, and quite possibly, this year will top that. I think 2015 was the warmest, until 2016 beat it out. So yes, there's a definite trend.

We had a lot of forest fires this summer. I wonder if anyone noticed that the air was really bad, and the sun appeared like in the pic below on some days.

At the beginning of August, in my area of the Olympic Peninsula, the sun was completely obliterated by smoke from fires...most of it was from the fires in BC. And, it was hot, hot, hot.

Meanwhile, it's 69 degrees at 3:00 a.m., & as an extra aside, fire danger is rated as extremely high in the Olympic NF. That's a first in the time that we have been here.

This morning our cars are covered with a layer of ash from the fires. Supposed to be 95 this afternoon, 66 now at 4:30am. Hopefully the rain does return Thursday.
