azgkrudi - what kind of alcohol drink are you talking about, here? Just curious what kind it is - not that I'd be able to tell any kind of diagnosis from knowing that.

Boy can I relate. I always enjoyed a few beers, especially micro brews around the NW. But alas now I'm on blood pressure meds and am in my 60's several gulps of beer is enough to feel it. A full beer is definitely felt. I just can't tolerate alcohol anymore much sadly. Haven't imbibed in pot for 30+ years so that's not a factor to be sure. Medications one is on is the first thing to put a kibosh on enjoying drinks. I would agree, it's once you're past 50 it starts to be a factor. Oh well.....enjoy it while you're young.

Blood pressure meds must lower blood pressure. Alcohol dilate blood vessels, so it has the same effect. I will leave it to a medical professional to say for sure, but what you are doing sounds like lowering blood pressure too much.

Were you more tired that day than usual? That affects alcohol tolerance too.

I am a Sleep Tech. but unfortunately that question flies right over my head about alcohol raising or lowering blood pressure. Anyone know? I'd be interested to know the answer to that. And/or whatever is causing the OP's problem when drinking. I am not thinking that alcohol consumption raises blood pressure.

Alcohol causes blood vessels to dilate, which would lower blood pressure, no?

What I have noticed is that the microbrews that I enjoy tend to have more alcohol content than what I drank when young and broke, cheap mass produced pale tasteless beer. Many of the places we go list the alcohol and bitterness on the beer menu. That stuff was 4-5 AbV, and what I like now can be 8-9. Whether it's age or not, being very much more mature now at 65, I stick to 1-2 drinks, and have no problems feeling more than a slight effect toward the end.

There are those who drink until they're blacked out, too, and that is yet another phenomenon I don't understand. I can have a margarita-flavored malt liquor of 25 ounces and that is pretty much it for me. I may have another 8-ouncer, and that is it. But there are those who will literally drink themselves until it's lights out for them!

I would say yes, it causes lower blood pressure if alcohol causes blood vessels to dilate.

I'm not diabetic, not on any meds. I do sometimes have the same drink at home and no, it never makes me feel that loopy. I guess why I brought it up is, this has happened several times (probably about 6 times?) across the 15 months I have lived here. This time I finally decided to ask the public to see if it's all in my head, or if there can be truth to this.

When my husband and I were in our 20s and 30s, we frequented a well-known all-inclusive resort in Jamaica. We've been there well over 20 times. There were a few nights here and there, when we would have this same kind of feeling that I described in my original post. That made me think of - what else? - ganja. Never smoked it in Jamaica, and never would here. So I don't know how it makes one feel. But I just know how one or two vodka sodas across 2 hours makes me feel. Definitely not loopy.

Maybe it's time to stay at home and make my own beverages
