Prodigal Coug is on a distinguished road
In Cle Elum, stop at McKean's drive-in and get a Giant burger on French bread with sauce and onions. They'll try to put cheese and fixings on it too, but insist....just sauce and onions.

Miner's in Yakima (Union Gap) has huge, tasty burgers.

Tacos Gyuamos on S 38th in Tacoma (just off I5 near the Tacoma Mall) is worth a visit.

Their "wet" burritos are worth multiple visits. Try them all.

Authentic food.

A great many Mexican nationals eat there, so it doesn't cater to Americanized tastes.

One last Tacoma breakfast recommendation, The Old Milwaukee Cafe 3102 6th Avenue. Breakfast only, open only from about 6am to 2pm (but not every day), has about 8 booths and get there early or you stand in line. It is tiny, tiny family run business.

Now, someone please tell me about a good Chinese Restaurant in Tacoma.
Second the vote on The Old Milwaukee Cafe.

Herman's is pretty good, bit I think I like them for the theme as much as the food.

I llved in Tacoma for 28 years and never found a Chinese restaurant that I'd stake a reputation on.

Some good ones, but nothing great, IMO...maybe it's because I spent 8 years in Asia and have different expectations.
