We're moving to the area and have heard so many mixed reviews.....my husband teaches high school theater and we're hoping he can find a job in Tacoma. We may be moving to the Kitsap peninsula. What are your thoughts on Tacoma for work? Thanks in advance!

I don’t have much info on Tacoma but if you plan on working there I don’t suggest living in kitsap county. The commute would be rough, i5 traffic is typically awful especially around rush hours & you’d be spending a ton in tolls to get through the Tacoma narrows bridge.

They are getting a week long commercial on Q13 all this week on the morning news.
It'll be weird when Hilltop and K Street aren't scary anymore. I grew up with it like that.

Yes, a definite improvement in the last 10 years, and as Seattle prices continue to soar, Tacoma prices go up and people with more money move in. My suggestion, however, is to live just across the bridge in Gig Harbor, a great little town, though more expensive than Tacoma, and going up faster with people even commuting to Seattle from there now.

This is where we're looking as of now. We're hoping to live right in Gig Harbor provided we both get jobs. I'm an art teacher and again, he teaches theater so fingers crossed.....thanks for the info! We've been hearing the arts are highly supported which is a huge plus.

It’s still a giant, overpriced drumpster of a city with sky-high crime

Exaggerated. Northend actually has a relatively low crime rate. The general rule: the further south (and closer to JBLM), the worse the crime.

Ignore the trolls. Tacoma is definitely improving. Hilltop is practically hipsterville. There are still sketchy neighborhoods in the south and eastsides but central, north and west Tacoma is very safe.
