Default Welcome!

I think you will be right at home... very large military presence and many retired vets live in the area.

About the only place with active anti-military groups is Olympia proper... and then it is only a small but very vocal group.

Lacey, Dupont and Yelm come to mind for south of Ft Lewis.... Lots of options North as well.

You can get an idea of Rentals by doing a Google search for rentals Lacey and Property Management or substitute and other city for Lacey.

Lots of new or nearly new homes for sale as well as for rent.

Welcome to the Pacific Northwest... and bring your Gortex

I like Lacey. It's its own town but almost seems part of Olympia.

As somebody said in the other thread, some places especially south of Fort Lewis can get noisy from the goings-on on the base but as many who live in the area put it, it's the sound of freedom.

As Ultrarunner has said, you'll definitely need rain gear as the Olympia area has the most days of rain than anywhere in the country.

I hope you'll like the northwest!

Fort Lewis main gate is right on the on ramp to interstate 5http://www.lewis.army.mil/.If you head south on I-5 you are in Lacey in 10 minutes with Olympia connected to Lacey. If you head north Lakewood and tacoma are about 10 minutes away.Lots of apartments north or south. If you head out of the back gate you are in the country with a trailer or two to rent.
Fort lewis is big and spread out with McChord air force base right next door and madigan hospital in between the two.MAMC External Web
Apartments for Rent and Homes for Rent
Utilities you ask.I see you are a E-4.$600
-$650 gets you a 2 bedroom apartment. You pay electric pro-able $30 in summer,$100 in winter.Basic Cable is included some places. You will find everything a big city has.commisary is not much cheaper than the many Super markets.
The Army will assign you a sponsor. He is stationed at fort lewis and his job is to answer your questions before you arrive, show you around when you get here and guide you through getting processed and settled in.Make him earn his money.
